Even before the pandemic of 2019, people were working online as freelancers and digital nomads. A lot of people who were, and still are, involved in e-commerce were actually single individuals or small groups of people who would collaborate through online mediums to create a digital business. Working online has been part of a lot of peoples’ professional working careers, however, through the pandemic it became more mainstream, and more people got to experience what it’s like to work full time as a remote employee or business.
Why Working Online Might Be Better Than Working In The Office
The fact that remote work and digital jobs were forced onto people during the pandemic has contributed to giving online work a bad reputation. When people hear the phrase ‘working online,’ they usually associate it with a lower-paying version of a full-time job or a temporary hurdle in a persons’ career path, though this is far from what it’s really like. There are some incredible features of working online and some of them might be a better option for you rather than working full time in a cubicle.
Goal-Oriented Vs. Time-Oriented
People make good money on working per hour jobs, but are they really utilizing their time in these positions? If you were getting paid to do things as fast as you could, you could most likely do all of your days’ work in your day-job in less than 4 hours. If you work an 8-hour shift, that gives you four more hours of your day to do whatever you like.
Moreover, you get four hours during the time of day when you can actually go out and do something rather than having 4 more hours at night where your options are limited. This gives online workers the chance to work on more projects than they would at a day job and consequently make more money.
In fact, even if you go the per-hour route you could make over $250 per hour if you are in the right industry. Just because you are working a 9-5 job doesn’t guarantee you will make more money than you could make just sitting at home, working from bed. However, more than your niche, acquiring work online is also a skill set in its own right.
Opportunity
If you have a very niche interest, it can be hard to make money off of it, if even possible. If you like constructing ant farms, for instance, it’s going to be a little challenging finding a day job that will pay you well for such a specific interest, especially in a small city.
Jon Dykstra from fatstacksblog.com says that through online work, many people have had the opportunity to make an incredible amount of money by working on niche subjects that they are genuinely interested in, and you can too! This is possible because, through the internet, your work is being sold to an international audience of billions. It becomes a volume game.
Reliability
When you are working a day job, you might be working 2, 3, or maybe even 4, before you run out of hours in a day. With online work, you could be catering to dozens of clients at a time because they require a particular job which only takes a certain amount of time.
Moreover, you have access to so many more earning opportunities than you would in a day job since you aren’t bound by clients about who you can work for, and how much time you can give each person. Through online work, you can be part of multiple programs, have multiple streams of revenue, and be multiplying your income every month.
If one income source slows down, others will pick up, if you don’t like working with one client you can choose another. It’s so much more reliable than working for one person, who could ask you to leave at any time, and then you are out again looking for a job.
Hybrid
Online work is one that you can fit around any schedule. The point is to get the work in on time, and the rest of the day is all yours. Online work can be a brilliant secondary source of income for people with full-time day jobs. Once you see that your online job is paying you enough, you can shift.
While online work, and the internet as a whole, are great ways to make a good living, some people are tied with the fact that they have to get up and go to work that they enjoy. They like being part of an office and enjoy having to dress a certain way because it gives them some sense of comfort that they are working for a ‘real’ company.
If you are one of those who are more interested in the size of their paycheque and the ability to take a vacation whenever they want, an online income may work out better for you.
