Fun Virtual Team-Building Activities to Keep Coworkers Connected

When you have a remote workplace, though, it’s not so easy. You don’t work in the same office and you might not even work in the same city, state, or even country.

So what can you do for virtual team-building?

It can be hard to feel like a single workplace unit when your workers are remote. We’ve compiled a list of great team-building activities, such as virtual escape rooms, for your employees to collaborate and have fun. Keep reading to learn more.

1.Group Exercise

The health of your employees is crucial if you want them to stay happy and productive. A happy team is a team that will work for you for years to come.

Many businesses do “real-life” workplace exercise sessions. Some keep it simple, like self-instructed yoga or jazzercise before work. Others invest in fitness classes for everyone who wants to be involved.

You don’t have to have a real-life space to get active as a group! The virtual way might even be better for people who aren’t as confident with their fitness level just yet.

You can do this for almost no cost at all. Pick out a favourite workout video online. It’s best to choose something that doesn’t require any equipment and that isn’t too high-impact. You want it to be as accessible as possible.

Then, set up a chat with the people who want to join you. The bolder ones can join on video while others are welcome to stick with a voice chat system. Have a quick workout session!

2.Virtual Escape Rooms

Escape rooms were all the rage a few years ago, but with fewer people able to go out to enjoy them, they’ve taken a bit of a dip.

Escape room coordinators have evolved with the times, though. They’ve created virtual escape rooms, like the one from Breakout Games escape room Gatlinburg.

These online escape rooms take all of the problem-solving fun from the real-life version and turn it into an online logic puzzle that your team can work on together.

It isn’t the same as a real escape room, but it’s a great alternative when the real deal isn’t an option. You can all work together in the chat to figure out how to get out!

3.Virtual “Parties”

So maybe you can’t party in person, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t party at all. You might feel silly having a virtual party, at least the first time.

Find a good chat client that can support the members of your workplace. Zoom is popular, but you can also use Skype or Discord. Make sure that you’re able to stream music that everyone can hear.

Use YouTube or Spotify to create a playlist that everyone can contribute their favourite songs to. You want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to add music so no one gets left out.

Create a “dress code” (but make it loose) for everyone to follow. Having the chance to dress up can make the “party” seem more special, even if everyone is in their own homes.

Set a date and “show up” to talk, chat, and have snacks and drinks at your own homes. The best part of virtual events: Cleanup is easy.

4.Workplace Game Night

While escape rooms are great for virtual team-building, you can also play plenty of other fun online games with your team. There are more options now than ever.

Most board games and card games have online versions. You can even play popular party games like Cards Against Humanity online if you’re up for a less “work-friendly” activity.

If you’re okay with spending a small amount of money, there are great online party games like Jackbox that include several games that will have your team working both against and alongside each other.

5.Virtual Paint Night

Have you ever been to one of those painting classes where everyone has a glass of wine and a cheap canvas and they’re all there to copy the same painting?

Paint nights are a blast, and they’re easy to bring into the virtual realm. While you may not be able to sit and chat “in real life” over a glass of merlot, you can replicate the experience with ease.

Like with the other suggestions, set up a good virtual video chat client that will accommodate your entire team. Make sure that you can stream or screen-share a video that everyone can watch (or if not, make sure that everyone has the link and can start at the same time).

If you’re the employer, consider giving each employee a gift card so they’re able to buy a simple set of acrylic paints and a canvas. These are affordable at many craft stores.

Everyone should set up their art space in front of their webcams and you can all paint together and show off your creations, regardless of how professional they look.

Virtual Team-Building Is Fun

The fact that you and your employees aren’t in the same room doesn’t have to get in the way of a bonding experience. You can do so many things from the comfort of your own homes.

Whether you’re into the idea of playing fun games, you’d love the chance to refine some fitness or art skills, or you want to have a virtual house party, all of these ideas are sure to please your team. Virtual team-building has never been easier. For more posts on all of the top trending topics, check out the rest of our site!
